Djokovic comes on top after a hard fought match with Federer

It took the longest singles final in the history for Novak Djokovic to beat Rodger Federer. It was the battle of real veteran gladiators who are equally matched.

Rodger Federer was the favorite when going into the match. With almost everyone rooting for him to win against Djokovic. The result may not have gone the way that the fans desired. But one thing is for sure that everyone enjoyed one of the most Epic final matches ever. Both players battled with every last ounce of their strength. As expected from two of the enormous Titans of the game, neither player allowed the other to occupy the dominant position for long.

The match was 4 hours and 57 minutes long, which is the most extended Wimbledon final ever. Add to that last set alone played out for 2 hours and 2 minutes. This fact is enough to show that neither player wanted to back down no matter the cost. Both players showed determination and grittiness of the highest level. And it was Djokovic who prevailed at the end.

Djokovic survived two championship points to defeat Federer 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-6(7-4), 4-6, 13-12(7-3) after a long and tiring match. Tiring for us maybe but looking at the determination that both players showed it seemed that they had some power bank attached to them. This is Djokovic’s 5th Wimbledon singles title and 16th Grand Slam title. He is only behind Federer (20) and Nadal (18) on the all-time list. Djokovic is on fire for quite some time now. He has won 4 of the last five slams. Only Nadal was victorious in stopping him at this year’s French Open.

The probability of Djokovic catching up to Federer and Nadal in the all-time list is pretty high. The reason being the impressive form he is in and his age. Djokovic is only 32 years old whereas Nadal is 33 and soon Federer will be 38. When asked about catching up to Swiss maestro’s grand slam title, the Serb said that he feels that he is getting closer, but Federer and Nadal are also winning slams. He added that it is because of those two that he is still competing at this level.

Djokovic pocketed 2,350,000 British pounds and 2000 points after successfully defending his title.
