Game Director Luke Smith first tweeted the news and Bungie reblogged: “As we get closer and closer to serving up Shadowkeep and New Light, it has become increasingly clear to us that our releases for this Fall would benefit from a bit more time in the oven.”
“Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team. It also means that we’re agile enough to choose to do what’s best for the game and our players, even if it’s the hard choice.”

Shadowkeep’s forthcoming Raid of Salvation will take place on October 5 for the race for World First. This falls on the weekend following the new launch date. To make up for the delay, the developers are extending the ongoing Moments of Triumph challenge through September 17, for an additional 3 weeks. Furthermore, the Iron Banner Crucible event will also be hosted the week of September 17.
With this new release date, Cross Save, which is still slated for a summer release, will now come out first.
This mild setback also means that Shadowkeep now no longer comes out in the same week as Borderlands 3. The original gap between their releases was just 4 days (13 September to 17 September). A lot of fans were concerned about not being able to make time for both the games which are competitors. Now, with these additional 2 weeks, fans get enough time to explore Borlerlands 3 before dicing into Shadowkeep.Â
