Tori Kelly has finally released her third album Inspired by True Events. And as the name goes, Kelly has bared down her soul through the lyrics and music of the songs.
The album is inspired by Kelly’s life events…
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter had taken a break from music due to some personal issues. And fans can feel in the songs what she went through not just during the difficult months but also in her past life. This is her third studio album which consists of a total of 16 songs.
Her most vulnerable album…
This time, Kelly has taken up her own life events to write the songs. We guess that’s the reason why the songs sound much more beautiful and appealing. Kelly told in an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1 with Zane Lowe that the whole album has a theme of vulnerability. “It’s definitely the most vulnerable album I’ve ever done, the most raw”, she said. She further added that she’d poured her whole heart and soul into it.
The inspiration behind the tracks…
All the tracks have some memories behind them. Sorry Would Go A Way is a song telling the story of Tori’s parents’ sudden divorce from her mother’s perspective. Your Words weaves a melancholy of loss and grief. It’s an ode to her late grandfather and is written in the first person making it all the more heartbreaking.
In Pretty Fades, Kelly talks about how external beauty means nothing and wears off with time. She emphasizes that there’s more to life than beauty. The singer has also written and sung about the long-distance relationship which she had with her now-husband back when they weren’t married in the track Coffee.
Kelly has kept it minimalist, plain and honest in all of her songs. Each song is versatile and heartwarming in its own way. The two times Grammy-winning singer has just proved with this album how much she’s grown over the years, not just in her life and relationships but also music.
