The summer season has begun and a lot of movies are all set to hit the screens. The summer box office season commenced with a bang with the release of Avengers: Endgame. Now, the upcoming biopic ‘Rocketman’ is expected to continue the same.
‘Rocketman’ is a musical drama based on the life of musician Elton John. It will feature Taron Egerton as the iconic British singer-songwriter. The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher. It is scheduled to release on 31 May 2019.
Moreover, the 29-year-old star took to the mic to recreate John’s songs himself. A new ‘Rocketman’ music video was released on Youtube. It shows Egerton performing the Elton John song “Rocket Man”. Although, he doesn’t sound like Elton John. But, his voice is different and can be used. Overall, the Kingsman actor sounds great.
The film will begin with Elton John’s early life. He was a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music. After which he reached global stardom through his influential musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. The movie will also focus on his struggles with depression, substance abuse, and acceptance of his sexual orientation.
Looking at the trailer and promos, the film is intended to be a 2019 hit. But, the big question is ‘are viewers ready for another similar musical biopic?’. Bohemian Rhapsody released a few months back and it was a financial success. Moreover, it went on to win four Academy Awards. For a change, the movie is being sold as a “musical fantasy” instead of a traditional biopic by the Paramount Pictures.
‘Rocketman’ will be the opening feature at the 29th edition of Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival. Additionally, Fandango has scheduled early preview screenings for Rocketman. On May 18, Fandango VIP members will have a chance to see the highly anticipated film almost two weeks prior to the worldwide release.
