Marvel is interested in bringing Keanu Reeves into the MCU, adding another gem to the gauntlet of amazing actors they have in the Cinematic Universe.
Keanu Reeves – Could a Dream Cast Become a Reality?
MCU has had a habit of having stellar casts in their movies, and there are only a few major actors who haven’t been in any MCU movie. One of them was Matrix and John Wick protagonist Keanu Reeves.
Keanu Reeves has been associated with the MCU for some time now. Ever since it was confirmed that Keanu Reeves was one of the three frontrunners for the role of Doctor Strange, the other two being Colin Farrel and Benedict Cumberbatch.
We now know that Benedict got the role, but fans can’t get Keanu out of their heads. Later, Keanu was also supposed to play the role of Yon-Rogg in the movie Captain Marvel but had to refuse due to scheduling conflicts with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (the role later went to Jude Law). Fans have also pictured Keanu Reeves as the next Wolverine since Hugh Jackman hung his claws in 2017. He showed interest in the role of Logan, but whether he gets it or not will be up to the future.
So, What Role Might he Get Now?
Reports suggest that Keanu Reeves has been approached for a role in the upcoming MCU movie The Eternals, releasing in 2020. So, what are The Eternals, and what role might he get?
Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, The Eternals is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans to develop super-powered individuals known as the Eternals along with the villainous Deviants.
Nothing has been confirmed with respect to Keanu Reeves, except that he’s been approached. We don’t have any official confirmation of him signing, and neither the role that he will be offered. But we can venture a guess? Knowing the type of roles Keanu has been known for in his movies – that of a dark, brooding, assassin-for-hire – we can probably imagine that he might play the role of Druig.
What else has been confirmed about the movie?
If everything goes as hoped, then Keanu Reeves will join the confirmed star cast of Angelina Jolie (as Sersi), Richard Madden (as Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani and Ma Dong-Seok.
On the side of the direction, Chloe Zhao is directing the film from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel head Kevin Feige is producing.
The Eternals will be one of the two films confirmed to release in 2020; the other film being Black Widow. So, The Eternals will form the foundation for Phase 4 of Marvel. For now, one can pray that Keanu agrees, and we get to see him finally in the MCU.
