Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of popular and veteran actor Will Smith never wanted to marry him in the first place. The Hollywood couple has now spent more than 20 years together and shares three children together, Trey Smith, Jaden Smith, and Willow Smith.
The Matrix’s actress made shocking news last year on the weekly cover story of PEOPLE’s magazine. Jada appeared for the interview with her 18-year-old daughter Willow and 65-year-old mother, Adrienne, and discussed various things about how the unbreakable bond in Hollywood’s popular family.
Jada Pinkett and Will Smith started seeing each other from 1994
Jada arrived at the set of Smith’s television show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, back for auditioning the role of Will’s character’s girlfriend, Lisa Wilkes. However, Jada didn’t make the audition but became friends with Will Smith. The reportedly started seeing each other from 1995, which continued in 1997 at The Cloisters, where they tied the knot among 100 guests.
Everyone back then thought a lovely romantic couple tied the knot with their will and affection, but actually it was not the case. Jada never wanted to marry Will Smith, but her mother’s suggestion influenced her in making that bold decision. She told PEOPLE that she was not going to marry, and when she said her mother, her mother, Adrienne told that Will wanted a family, and you should marry. She even joked that her mother is so old-schooled.
Not only Adrienne’s, but Will’s mother also made Jada marry him. She told that Will’s mother, Gammy freakingly, cried in front of Will to get married, which left Jad no choice but to agree on the wedding. Poor Jada had been struggling with morning sickness and was pregnant with their first child, Jaden when the wedding happened.
Jada was against the marriage not because she hated Will (in fact, she adored Will) but because she had never witnessed a happy marriage and felt happily-ever-after just like a fantasy. Jada and Will have successfully celebrated 22 years of marriage, but still, she doesn’t think that they are married in any sense. She feels the wedding more of partnership stuff and believes they should be their own person. She quoted, “Love is Freedom.”
