New York, Friday: After giving up his fight for Extradition, Murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Luigi Mangione was transported to New York City by FBI and NYPD. Luigi Mangione, 26, is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center after he was extradited to the city on Thursday morning. Earlier Mangione wa battling legally for not be extradited to New York and to be tried in Pennsylvania.
Mangione made his first appearance in Manhattan federal court Thursday afternoon, hours after the unsealing of the criminal complaint. Luigi Mangione is facing four federal charges, including stalking, a firearms offense involving a silencer and murder through use of a firearm. Due to the severity of the charges Mangione could be facing DEATH PENALTY.
Additionally, the entry stated that “the target is insurance” since “it checks every box,” according to the complaint. The notes stated in an entry dated October 22, 2024, “1.5 months. This gathering for investors is a real boon… and—above all—the message becomes clear.”
According to the complaint, further in the entry, the pages detail a plan to “wack” the CEO of one of the insurance companies during its investor conference.
The 26-year-old Ivy League alumnus is charged with ambushing and killing Brian Thompson on December 4 as the leader of the biggest medical insurance business in the US was making his way to an investor conference outside a hotel in Manhattan.
According to authorities, Mangione was caught on December 9 while having breakfast at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, with the gun that was used to kill Thompson, a passport, phony identification, and roughly $10,000.
After originally opposing efforts to extradite him, Mangione made two brief court appearances Thursday, agreeing to be returned to New York after first vacating a preliminary hearing on allegations of forgery and weapons.
Given the impracticability of returning for an in-person hearing after he is in jail in New York, his next hearing in Pennsylvania is set for February 24. This hearing may end result in a continuance or a remote Zoom appearance.
