Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor announces retirement, Again

Controversial Irish fighter Conor McGregor announced his retirement from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) on Tuesday. The 30-year-old retires with an MMA record of 21 wins and four defeats.
“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today,” McGregor tweeted from his official Twitter account.

McGregor started his MMA career in 2008 and, in 2012, he won both the Cage Warriors
Featherweight and Lightweight Championships, holding both titles simultaneously before
vacating them to sign with the UFC.

In 2015, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously. McGregor began his professional boxing career in 2017. In his debut match, he was defeated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. by technical knockout in the tenth round.

He made $30 million for the fight itself and reportedly pocketed close to $100 million in total through the various forms of revenue streams. McGregor began a new business venture of blended whiskey, Proper No. Twelve, it retails for around $25 a bottle. McGregor owns a fleet of ten luxury vehicles.

In 2016, after a defeat to Nate Diaz, he made an announcement of early retirement. But he
returned to fight and beat the same opponent later that same year. McGregor has never been far from controversy in his rough career.

He was charged in April 2018 with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief after police said he attacked a charter bus in New York carrying UFC fighters.

He was also arrested in Florida earlier in March for a separate incident after he smashed a fan’s phone, allegedly having objected to having his picture taken when leaving a nightclub.
