2 Chicago firefighters hospitalized in East Garfield Park Apartment Fire

Illinois, Chicago:2 Chicago firefighters were hospitalized after they were injured while battling a massive building fire in the East Garfield Park Area in Chicago.

The fire started at around 8 pm which was then reported to the local fire department. They immediately dispatched a crew to douse the blaze and evacuate the building. But as the firefighter reached the 3rd floor of the building, the structural integrity of the floor was compromised due to the blaze. That’s when the 2 firefighters fell two stories after the floor beneath them collapsed.

Both the firefighters who were injured in this incident were immediately taken to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital where they are being treated.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt explained the chain of events that transpired this incident. He said, “It was just a routine fire for them, It was clear… Next thing you know, went through a hole. We are still investigating that to find out exactly what that was but thank God, they are OK.”

Both firefighters are now in stable condition. They are recovering at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital and they are being monitored by doctors there.
