Game Of Thrones: Fans Annoyed, Franchise Might Suffer

The ultimate episode of the HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will air on Sunday evening. This season has been the highest-rated one in the show’s history. Last week, the show was watched by a massive 18.4 million people.

These figures most likely suggest that the series is going out on a high note. But unfortunately, that is not the case here. Many longtime fans have been unhappy with this season. Mainstream publications like Forbes and The Washington Post have highly criticised the way the show is winding down. Moreover, a Change.org petition called “Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers” have also been signed by over half a million people.

Game Of Thrones

Barna William Donovan suggested that distancing fans can make things worse for the franchise in terms of business. If audiences are left furious after airing the final episode, then any future plans for spinoffs and DVD sales might get punished severely.

HBO is coming up with a prequel series called “Bloodmoon.” Additionally, home video editions will be also be released.

Donovan also reckoned that this might affect the creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are going to create the next trilogy of ‘Star Wars’ films. Already a bunch of ‘Star Wars’ fans are unhappy with the last two entries ‘The Last Jedi’ and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story.’

Game of Thrones Season 8

Benioff and Weiss are geniuses for successfully adapting George R.R. Martin’s books to the screen, despite they have been regarded for only proficient of recreating someone else’s idea on the screen.

However, everyone is not pessimistic on this issue. Blake Masters said as long as the prequel holds R. R. Martin’s authorial stamp, he will eagerly follow it.

Daniel Barber quotes that ‘The opposite of cheering is not booing, it is silence.’ If fans are outraged this means that they are hyper-engaged. They are connected to the series. They will be the ones first in line for the new series, books, DVD collections, and whatever else comes next.

With one episode left before the series becomes a part of television history, it remains to be seen how fans will respond when the final credits roll.
