Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim coming to Netflix

Brace yourself all the nineties kids for a dose of nostalgia because your childhood is coming to Netflix. Viacom CEO Bob Bakish announced that the rights for the long-awaited movie reboots of Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim have been sold to Netflix. NickALive reported that this was confirmed during the company’s Q2 Earnings Conference Call.

Earlier, a teaser for the movie Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling was released by Nickelodeon in 2017 during San Deigo Comic Con. However, no official release date was ever revealed.

Plot synopsis of the movie suggests that it will not be set in the 90s anymore. Rocko will finally get back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. He will have trouble accepting this 21st-century modern life; drinking coffee at Buzzbucks, using smartphones called O-Phones, and getting tacos filled with more tacos at a food truck. Whereas, Heffer and Filburt will be seen embracing new technology and social media. Most likely, Static Cling will be the perfect movie to recollect on just how weird Rocko’s Modern Life really was.

Invader Zim was dropped 17 years earlier. Nickelodeon released the teaser trailer for Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus at San Diego Comic-Con last in 2018.

Zim plans of taking over Earth, but his confidence gets ruined when he realizes that his leaders from the planet Irk have no plans of coming to Earth to join him. Giving his human nemesis Dib a chance to confront him. Zim’s robot friend GIR will also be seen along his side.

Both movies are written and directed by their original creators. Moreover, a lot of the voice actors are back too. So, high hopes are there that the reboots will live up to the spirit of the originals.

There is no official release date for either movie yet, but aren’t we excited for these throwback films to finally see the light of day?
