The real life ending in “The Act” is not what depicted in the show

Hulu on March 20 2019 aired the true crime drama show called The Act based on the real-life incident happened between Gypsy Blanchard, Dee Dee Blanchard, and Nick Godejohn. It follows a story of a girl how she was kept in a dark about her health by her abusive mother and upon knowing the secrets the daughter executes to plan a murder her mother with the help of his boyfriend.

The season was critically acclaimed and everybody loved the storyline and performances. Rotten Tomato reviewed, “Disturbingly nuanced performances from Patricia Arquette and Joey King make The Act a convincing case for the ongoing dramatization of true crime stories.”

Here’s something interesting; The show has a so-called happy ending. The girl who rebels her mother for being overprotective and abusive and deceiving towards her health condition finally succeeds her ambition with the help of her boyfriend. The couple run after murdering the mother. But in real life, the ending is another. Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn were brought before the law and put on trial. They were regarded as guilty of Gypsy’s mother.

It is mentioned that Dee Dee, the mother suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by proxy. This is the mental illness in which a person particularly a caretaker fakes that the other person is ill. Gypsy pleaded her boyfriend whom she dated through Christian dating website since 2012 to tour from Wisconsin to Missouri and convinced him to stab the mother to death.

Gypsy is serving 10-year prison sentence in Chillicothe Correctional Center in Chillicothe, MO.
