One of the visible themes of Season 3 is definitely “resistance”, with June at its centre. She tries to look for allies, like Nick and Serena Joy, to fight for her daughter. During the process, she also tries to break out of the inhumane system.
The political and social landscape of The Handmaid’s Tale is so tangible that it makes us feel slightly uncomfortable. Simultaneously, it makes us rejoice in the moving images of action done against oppression and a determined fight for freedom. The tag of “freedom” is an essential part of the series. The tag, in the beginning, is designed to be removed from the memory of everyone, the women in general and the Handmaiden in particular.
The glimpses of “resistance” are seen when June finds the Latin phrase-“Nolite te bastards carborundum” (Don’t let the bastards grind you down). She somehow finds comfort in it, without understanding it.
Miller has confirmed with Hollywood Reporter that there is a chance of 10 seasons of the series. In September 2019, Margaret Wood will release a sequel of the novel. It seems like we will have a full and happy year.
