After suffering from torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, Klay was not seen playing again. Klay might miss a significant portion of the next season. This didn’t stop warriors from offering a max deal to Klay Thompson. According to the multiple reports, including the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle, the Golden State sharpshooter agreed to a five-year, $190 million deal with the team on Sunday. This deal was particularly crucial for warriors with their star player, Kevin Durant leaving the group to join Brooklyn Nets. They certainly need Klay now more than ever to support Steph Curry.
Golden State owner Joe Lacob’s thoughts
Some sources even say that Klay was ready to explore other options if he was not offered a max deal. “I’ve said for a long time I want Klay to be a Warrior for life, and so [the injury] doesn’t change anything as far as I’m concerned,” Golden State owner Joe Lacob told Yahoo Sports in June. “You know I have the utmost regard for Klay’s talent and him as a person. I’m pretty sure we’ll talk this summer, and he’ll hopefully be a Warrior for life.”
