Doctor Strange 2: MCU’s 1st horror film Benedict Cumberbatch & Elizabeth Olsen will star in

Marvel Studios confirmed its Phase 4 schedule at the 2019 Comic-Con in San Diego this Saturday. And it has some surprises lined up. And last week we hear, what we’re sure won’t be the last, an exciting surprise in store for Doctor Strange’s second solo sequel. Read on to find out what plans Marvel has for our time magician.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Will Feature A Rather Unexpected Character

Marvel, in the Comicon panel, confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch would star in their second Doctor Strange movie to be called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But what we didn’t know is, Elizabeth Olsen is part of the cast too.

Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange will now be taking on evil together. We’re sort of leaning into the idea.

Where This Is Coming From

During the panel, Marvel also elaborated on their upcoming series WandaVision in collaboration with Disney. Apparently, Doctor Strange 2 will coincide with its timeline. Kevin Feige explained that the events of the WandaVision series would lead Wanda to Doctor Strange, presumably, asking for help.

WandaVision centers on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff (the Scarlett Witch) and Paul Bettany’s Vision.

The Goth and The Horror

Director Scott Derrickson also said that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be “the first scary MCU movie,” While like all others, it will be inspired by the original comic books, he plans to incorporate some “horror” into the film. Marvel could be stepping into a new age of violence with Strange’s latest adventure, but the age rating of the film is still tilting towards PG-13

Cumberbatch also added that according to him, it’s “vital to maintain the humor of the first film, but with this twist of horror.”

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse Of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen and directed by Scott Derrickson premieres in the theaters on May 7, 2021.
