Henry Golding to play MCU’s Black Panther 2 Villain Namor?

Rumor has it that Disney is eyeing Henry Golding  for the role of the villain, Namor, in MCU’s Black Panther 2.

The 32-year old actor rose to fame with his debut in the highly popular rom-com ‘Crazy Rich Asians‘. With these new rumors, he is all set to make his mark in Hollywood with the biggest name, Marvel Studios.

The sequel for the critically acclaimed blockbuster Black Panther was not featured in MCU’s list of Phase 4 movie releases. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige did hint that the movie will have a continuation. Thus, the second installment can probably be expected in Marvel’s Phase 5.

The character of Namor, the Sub-Mariner and his realm of Atlantis was first introduced in Iron Man:2. It’s also being speculated that Avengers: Endgame referenced him when Okoye mentioned the underwater earthquakes in Africa. The Marvel comics do set up T’Challa and Namor as potential rivals and these hints only strengthen these speculations.

After Marvel’s announcement of their first Asian lead Simu Liu for ‘Shang-Chi’, MCU seems to be looking at an Asian villain.

For anyone struggling to picture Henry Golding as the powerful Atlantis King, Instagram’s BossLogic produced a brilliant imagining.

The fanart is a movie poster for Black Panther 2 which BossLogic went ahead and named ‘Two Kings’. It shows Henry Golding as the Fighter King, Namor, completing his ensemble with battle armor and weapons. Namor is drawn with pointy elf ears and an X adorning his belt, a nod to his mutant origin.

The post gained so much popularity that it drew the attention of Golding himself, who commented, “Imperius Rex!”, Namor’s signature catchphrase.

Despite all these rumors, it is still to be officially confirmed who would be playing Namor in the follow up to Black Panther.
