Justin Bieber is Being Blamed for Too Many Tourists in Iceland

Canadian singer-songwriter, Justin Bieber is probably one of the most famous singers across the globe has been facing lots of criticism lately. A self-described most human season he had ever been in now includes a rebuke for the closure of the Icelandic Canyon.

Fjaðrárgljúfur, a 100 m (330 ft) deep and about 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) long, with the Fjaðrá River flowing through it is, in fact, an outstanding natural beauty. But lately, the number of tourists visiting this place has increased from 50 to 80 percent until 2019. The Telegraph report showed that 150,000 tourists visited the canyon in the year 2017, and in 2018, the number increased to 282,000.

Bieber is struggling a lot through lately and the reason for the closure of the canyon is centred to Justin. The Grammy winner shot the music video for his song “I’ll show you” from the album purpose in 2015 across the various parts of Iceland including this canyon.  The music video has more than 440 million views on YouTube.

Daníel Freyr Jónsson, Head of the Environmental Agency of Iceland told Icelandic news outlet RUV that very few people outside Iceland knew about the destination prior to the music video.

But the director of the National Tourism agency has a different view regarding these accusations and told the CNN Travel that it’s not fair to blame the singer for the closure.

“It’s just a natural wonder that wasn’t meant to be that popular,” says Inga Hlin Palsdottir. And the Environmental Agency told the canyon will be closed at least until June.
