Lo and Behold! The much-loved teen show Gossip Girl which gave a new definition to fashion and social media since its release is coming back on the small screen.
Girls get ready to “Gossip”…
The six seasons series which originally ran on The CW network from 2007 to 2012 was a big hit. It took television and social media (which was growing at that time) by storm. And now after eight years (which might I say is a very long wait), the show is being rebooted.
The show will be back next year…
The 10 episodes long rebooted series will be showcased on HBO Max. It is Warner Bros Media’s streaming service which will be launched next year. So, fans will see Gossip Girl in 2020. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage from the original series are returning back as executive producers. The rebooted version will be written by the original series writer Joshua Safran and is based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar.
Talking about the new series, Safran told to The Hollywood Reporter that it was something they had been talking about. They were not sure if they wanted to explore. But then the stars aligned. It seemed like the best time and also the best way to do it.
This time eight years after the original website went dark, Gossip Girl will focus on the lives of a new generation of New York private school teens. It will address how much social media and the landscape of New City has changed in the intervening years.
Will we have the original cast in the new Gossip Girl?
From the logline, it’s clear that we’ll have a whole new cast of teen actors in the show. But fans would really want to see the original actors but there’s no word from the creators if it’ll happen. Gossip Girl turned Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick into overnight sensations.
In an interview with Variety in 2017, Lively had said that if the new show will be good and made sense, then she might think of working. Similarly, Meester is also not against the idea saying that she has never said never to the new show although nothing has been informed to her. Crawford also told in an interview that he might be doing a cameo in the reboot.
As much has changed since the original series ended in 2012, the reboot will be at a whole new level. Hopefully, with more scandals, rude teen characters, glitzy couture and hot gossips.
