During a recent podcast appearance, TV personality, Mario Lopez, made some insensitive and ignorant comments. The comments regarding parenting transgender children and sexual assault. The actor’s comments received heavy criticism from angry parents and LGBTQ advocates.
The actor said that it is dangerous for parents of kids as young as 3 years old to determine their kids as transgender. The actor made the comments while talking to Candace Owens on her show after she said that raising transgender children was weird and scary. According to Owens, allowing children to make decisions about their gender is the same as them seeing them mermaid or they could fly.
Mario Lopez was immediately under a barrage of criticism for his comments. He also received a response from Karamo Brown, who depicts a culture expert on Netflix’s revival of Queer Eye. Brown tweeted that he was disappointed to read Mario’s comment about parents who support their child’s openness about their gender identity. He added that he is trained to identify abuse or neglect of a child and a healthy and safe dialogue with kids is neither abusive neglectful or dangerous.
I don’t think @MarioLopezExtra should be ‘canceled’. But I do believe he should be given the opportunity to learn why his comments are harmful to trans youth and their parents. Mario, I’m ready to talk when you are.
