Bluegrass musician Jeff Austin passes away after medical emergency

After canceling his lined up shows due to an undisclosed medical emergency, Jeff Austin, 45 passed away in a Seattle hospital on June 24.

His death was confirmed by his booking manager, Barron Ruth. He died in Seattle at age 45 after being put into a medically induced coma, Ruth said.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved family member, mandolinist, singer, songwriter, and founder of The Jeff Austin Band, and Yonder Mountain String Band, Jeff Austin. Austin passed away June 24, 2019, in Seattle, Washington,” a statement said. “He was a dear friend whose music touched the lives of so many, and will be sorely missed.”

His career and friends:

Austin had a tumultuous musical career. The bluegrass musician was best known for co-founding The Yonder Mountain String Band. He was part of the band for fifteen years and contributed a lot for both his music and the band. In addition to performing a wide range of music with the band, he also had a fruitful but short solo career.

The American bluegrass musician embarked on a solo career after leaving the band in 2014 after 15 years of being with the band. The bluegrass musician was best known for co-founding The Yonder Mountain String Band. The Yonder Mountain String Band also shared their condolences and grievance via social media.

“We are saddened to report that we have lost our brother Jeff Austin,” the statement was from Yonder on Facebook. “Remembering the incredible times and magical moments puts us at a profound loss for words. While we honor his memory, we will continue to pray for his family and for the journey they now face without him.”

Austin’s impact on the bluegrass and jam communities was profound. He had inspired many with his genre of music. He has a wife, Devlyn with whom he has three children.
