Bruce Lee’s Daughter Felt ‘Disheartening’ After Watching Her Father’s Not So Real Portrayal In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is gathering appraisal from all over the world. After watching this comedy-drama that is set in 1969, Los Angeles, few can imagine that one would not like it. But there is someone who didn’t like the movie, or we can say a particular part of the film.

This “modern fairy tale seems a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age” but Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee doesn’t think the same after watching her father’s portrayal in the movie. According to ‘Wrap’ Shannon felt ‘disheartening’ after watching the star-studded movie.

The Scene Tha Hurt Her Most

For those who didn’t witness the blockbuster yet, there is a scene between  Brad Pitt’s character and Bruce Lee. Cliff Booth(Pitt) around whom the storyline revolves once get engaged in a battle of words and fists with Lee on a Hollywood set. That’s the content that hurt Lee’s daughter the most and eventually made her disliking the movie.

To the media outlet, she said that “I understand they want to make the Brad Pitt character this super bad-ass who could beat up Bruce Lee. But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive.”

Movie Represented Her Father As An Arrogant

She felt that her late father in the movie “come across as an arrogant asshole who was full of hot air.” While according to her, in real life, he was just contrary to that. She explained that “[He was] someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.”

While watching ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ it was “uncomfortable” to her to “sit in the theater and listen to people laugh at my father.” But on the other hand, she also understands that Tarantino who wrote and helmed the project wants to show “a period of time that clearly had a lot of racism and exclusion.”

Shannon is completely disappointed with the disregard for Lee’s accomplishments and life as she expressed “All of that was flushed down the toilet in this portrayal, and made my father into this arrogant punching bag.”

Well, Tarantino’s response to Shannon’s call-out is still awaited.
