Video Conferencing has always been an essential part of professional life, but due to the coronavirus pandemic—most of the peoples are now confined to the home—the feature has become more essential than before.
Facebook Inc. is now working to allow users to connect at least 50 people in video calls in its cross-platform messaging and VoIP service, WhatsApp. Zoom Video Communications, Google Meets, and Skype have been receiving huge traffics on their platform due to the current situation, now Facebook also wants to follow the same path.
The Facebook-owned messenger is widely popular for personal and professional connections in comparison to Zoom, and Google Meets if we exclude video conference. WhatsApp could be the new Zoom if it succeeds in providing your video conferencing needs, given that the widespread popularity the VoIP service has.
A hawkeye researcher at WABetaInfo recently spotted the 50-person video call option. The option was located in WhatsApp Web’s beta version, where an icon in the menu was made available that will allow you to create a room and invite your colleagues to join.
WhatsApp Messenger recently updated the video call feature that will allow the user to conduct eight-person video calls instead of the previous four. However, the 50-person video call will only be available for desktop version initially and would later be added to iOS and Android devices.
We exactly don’t know when the feature will be available, but we can expect shortly. Facebook has already launched Messenger rooms in April, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed that the feature would be available at Facebook, Whatsapp, and even on Instagram, but it is not active in the interface except Facebook in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Zuckerberg confirmed the feature would be made available globally in the coming weeks.
