National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a G2 or moderate Geo-storm after a sudden flash of increased brightness on the Sun was dragged along with a significant release of plasma called coronal mass ejection (CME).
The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF)’s Geophysical Institute’s aurora forecast deduced that people residing across Canada and northern parts of US could witness Aurora Borealis or Northern lights from Friday night to Saturday.
Aurora could be in sight aloft across Canada, and parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Michigan, Maine, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
The aurora is caused by collisions between electrically charged particles released from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere and collide with oxygen and nitrogen. It can’t be seen everywhere.
Even though Aurora is passing overhead; residence could probably see the aurora over the horizon. Those auroras can be seen only when the skies are totally dark and free of the clouds. But nowadays, growing cities and light pollution coming along way prevent to enjoy the spectacular view.
So, if you are staying in those places, make sure you travel somewhere where there is less light pollution and also forecast the likes of clouds coming over the skies.
There is no exact time of CMEs to reach the Earth’s atmosphere but he scientists believe it would be in midnight somewhere between midnight and 3 in the am. Stay updated with the concerned authority.
