BBC One is Renewed the Seasons Of “Call The Midwife”

“Even after all these years, it still feels as though Call the Midwife has more truth to tell, more tears to cry, more life to celebrate, and more love to give. “We are blessed with the best cast, crew, and audience a show could wish for, and I could not be more excited about our future” said Heidi Thomas, the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer, in statement when she promised the fans that their favourite east London nuns will be on air until 2022, which means that two extra holiday specials on the Christmas eve.

Call the Midwife future was already decided until 2020, but BBC has commissioned another two seasons of the popular period drama. With the news coming just before when the season 8 premieres in the USA (31 st March) has got the excitement among the fans. The BBC’s content director Charlotte Moore added that “we’re all looking forward to following our cast through the tough years of the late sixties.”

The season is being currently aired on BBC in the UK while it is set to be aired in the United States, with the holiday special before the season 9 is out in 2020, while next 2 seasons are likely to be aired in 2021 and 2020.

As of now, there is no word on the cast for the coming seasons, will the long-serving Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) and Nurse Trixie (Helen George) continue? or can we expect more of breakout new character Sister Mildred (Miriam Margolyes)? The Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes returned in the first episode of season 8, and will be popping up again as Call the Midwife’s “extra-special regular guest star.” She’s not the only newcomer, because after we first met them at the nuns’ Mother House in the Christmas episode – two more new characters have arrived at Nonnatus to make up for reduced characters.

According to PBS, “Season 8 brings us back to Nonnatus House in 1964, a time of change both in Poplar and throughout the world. The nuns and nurses face a variety of challenging issues such as interracial adoption, cleft palate and sickle cell. For one, romance may be on the horizon.”

In the years so far Call the Midwife have made a reputation for themselves for always highlighting some serious health issues, both physical and mental and this season is not going to be any different.
