‘No Man’s Sky’ fans raise funds to thank ‘Hello Games’ despite poor ratings

Despite the hostile and disappointed reception at No Man’s Sky release in 2016, the developers got a good surprise at the end. No Man’s Sky released with many features lacking as promised and led to bitter criticism of its developers.

But as a change of heart and mindset, surprisingly, the game’s fans raised over expected money. And the collected funds went into putting up a billboard saying ‘Thank You Hello Games’ outside the developer’s office. Quite an achievement for Hello Games after the disastrous release back in 2016.

Crowdfunding started by NMS fans:

It was all started by a No Man’s Sky fan Cameron G who despite the game’s failures wanted to thank Hello Games for their efforts. He proceeded to create a fundraising page along with other fans at GoFundMe. Even though the initial target was set at $1,750 for the billboard, the target was met quickly and was subsequently raised to $6,000. The extra funds are to be donated to Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.

On asked about this fundraising, Cam G explains: “Hello Games has put in a heroic effort to get NMS to where it is today. As a community on r/NoMansSkyTheGame, we’d like to express our thanks.”

Indeed, Hello Games tried their best to bring back the fans it lost. Subsequently after NMS release, Hello Games announced the release of Foundation Update. It stated that “We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.”

This reduced the level of disappointed but still didn’t fully satisfy fans. After the Foundation Update, makers have also released the promised multiplayer mode, base building for free in order to compensate.

Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games also tweeted in shock and appreciation.

Ultimately, the only purpose for Cam G was to express his appreciation. He wanted others to know about Hello Games’ post launch works and dedication.
